Design stages

1- Initial consultation (free).
We can discuss what you would like to achieve in the re-design, and I can answer any questions you might have about the process.
Part of taking the brief is finding out what does and doesn't work about the space, and the kind of aesthetic you are interested in.
In the case of businesses, we will discuss the identity of your brand, and how that can be reflected in the design.
2- Survey (£300- £700)
An accurate survey of the existing space forms the basis for the floor plans and the design.
I can carry out a full survey (using a laser measure) or can recommend local surveyors who can produce a full set of existing drawings.
If you have already have digital copies of plans from previous work, these can be used.
3- Space planning &
Concept design (£500- £1200)
Space planning: if you feel a layout does not work effectively, I can provide alternative options that meet the functional requirements of the space. Following the survey, a floor plan and new layout option(s) are drawn on computer.
Concept design: working to meet your brief, a scheme is created using wall & floor finishes, fixtures, fabric and furniture. It is presented using samples, look & feel images and 3D visuals.
4- Detailed design (£400-£1500)
During this stage, the design will be developed, and a detailed set of drawings and documents will be created. This will form a set of instructions that contractors and other trades can use to provide quotes and to carry out the work. .
Drawings include: general arrangement plan, lighting layout, floor/ wall finishes plans, joinery detailing (kitchens, reception desks etc).
Documents include: scope of works (description of work to be carried out), spreadsheets of specific budget appropriate finishes, fixtures and furniture.
5- Construction (£300-£500)
I work closely with the contractor and other tradespeople that are appointed to carry out the design.
I have found that having the designer involved throughout this stage ensures the design is implemented as agreed.
I will advise on appropriate items to be procured and resolve any design related on-site issues as they arise.
